These arms were assumed to represent the Rivera family and its descendants, symbolising Christian faith, wisdom, service, leadership, discipleship, and legacy. The field of blue disected by a fesse wavy presents to the viewer a pun on the armiger's surname Rivera. The surname Rivera (and its Spanish/Italian variant Ribera) comes from the Latin word riparia, which translates to "riverbank" or "shore". The fesse wavy (the wavy horizontal line running across the middle of the shield) can be viewed as the symbol for water or a river. Therefore, the wavy fesse reflects what would be a traditional canting pun on a surname derived from a riverbank.

The silver cross upon a blue field symbolises faith in Christ as the foundation of life and character. The golden torch in flames represents wisdom, discipleship, and the responsibility to pass truth from one generation to the next.

The crest of a white dove holding the olive brance, a symbol of peace, rising from a golden coronet represents the guidance of the Holy Spirit under the sovereign reign of Christ the King.

The badge, which can be worn as a broach, mirrors, in design and in meaning, that of the crest.

The armiger was born in Caracas, Venezuela, the son of Raul R. Rivera Godoy and Maria Y. Garcia Cardenas. He was raised among a close-knit family and is one of five siblings. In order of birth, the children of Raul and Maria Rivera are Raul R. Rivera, Jean F. Rivera, Merling D. Irizarry, Carol J. Cartagena Rivera, and Yolmar D. Chacon-Rodriguez.

From an early age, the armiger developed a deep appreciation for faith, service, education, and leadership. These values would later shape both his military career and his commitment to family and Christian ministry. In the year 2000, he married Fany Rivera, née Fany Aleman Molina, who was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Fany is the daughter of Jose L. Aleman Martinez and Liliana L. Molina. Together, Jean and Fany established a family founded upon Christian faith, mutual devotion, perseverance, and service to others.

Jean and Fany honourably served in the United States Army for twenty years, both retiring with the rank of Major. During their military career they served in a variety of leadership positions, both within the United States and abroad, earning the respect of their peers and subordinates through their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to duty. Their military service reflected the principles of integrity, sacrifice, and stewardship that continue to guide their life.

Beyond military service, the armiger and his wife have devoted themselves to Christian ministry, discipleship, leadership development, and the strengthening of families and communities. Their shared commitment to faith has led them to serve together in ministry and to pursue projects designed to educate, encourage, and equip future generations.

Jean and Fany are the proud parents of two children: Jean Franco E. Rivera and Esther D. Rivera. As parents, they have sought to instil in their children the values of faith in God, respect for others, lifelong learning, service, and personal responsibility. The Rivera family regards faith as the cornerstone of its heritage. The family’s adopted armorial bearings reflect this commitment through symbols representing Christian faith, wisdom, service, and the enduring legacy of future generations.
