The fox alludes to the clever nature exhibited by the armiger's family. He is a student of Historical European Martial Arts, specifically the German long-sword techniques of Johannes Liechtenauer, and the training federschwert held by the fox refers to this interest.

The oak leaves upon the shield have a dual reference in that the armiger is a member of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids and so oak leaves and nature are important to him; the fact that they are nine in number alludes to the armiger's Irish lineage which includes links to
Niall of the Nine Hostages. The family is of Irish, English and German descent. The German lineage is also referenced in the use of the training federschwert held by the fox.

The motto "
Callidus, Curae Plenus, Facetus," translates to Clever, caring, witty.
