Arms: Or a stag trippant Gules attired Azure within a bordure also Azure charged with eight saltires couped Argent.

Crest: Issuing from a wreath Or, Gules and Azure a dexter hand Proper holding a rose Gules slipped, leaved, barbed and seeded Proper.

Mantling: Gules doubled Or.

Motto: (above) Stimulat Sed Ornat; (below) Mens Conscia Recti.

Assumed: (without the saltires) 1967. Saltires added 1978 as additional difference from historical arms of the name.

The armiger’s goal was to adapt the general pattern of historical Scottish and Irish (Ulster-Scot) MacCartney/Macartney arms, in the Scottish tradition of "indeterminate cadency" to honour the name without suggesting a proven genealogical connection.

Those historical arms all featured a red stag trippant within a red bordure,either plain or charged with roses. The armiger changed the stag's antlers and the bordure to blue, and later added the saltires to the bordure to further difference them (his grandfather and great-great grandfather were both named Andrew; their heritage being Scotch-Irish; a white saltire on blue is the nautical signal flag for the letter M).

The crests of the historical arms are either a cubit arm holding a branch with a single rose, or a hand holding a branch with three roses; here, the hand is holding a single rose.

The mottos are borrowed from the historical arms, which all use one or both.
