The blue and gold allude to the armiger’s Naval service, and that of his father and uncle. The saltire was chosen because of the armiger's Scots and Confederate Southern ancestry.

The Piercèd Heart refers to Clan MacLennan’s kinship with Clan Logan. The armorial bearings of Logan of that Ilk were “Or, three piles conjoined in point and piercing through a man’s heart placed in the nombril point Gules” signifying a heart pierced by three passion nails said to commemorate the deaths of Sir Robert Logan and Sir Walter Logan at the Battle of Teba (August 1330) while accompanying The Black Douglas carrying the heart of Robert the Bruce on a crusade; the same incident for which the House of Douglas were granted a crowned heart in their arms. The motto was a statement given to the armiger by his paternal grandfather.

The beehive is a symbol of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shows the armiger’s membership therein.
