The
armiger is in possession
of a copy, dated 30
October 1788, of the
sentence confirming the
noble privileges issued
by the Supreme
Magistrate of the Royal
Finances of the Duchy of
Parma, Piacenza and
Guastalla (published in
Historical Archive for
the Provinces of Parma,
series IV, volume LVI
(2004), edited 2005).
The arms are recognized
in The Yearbook of the
Italian Nobility, XXXIII
(2015-2020), volume II,
part IV and have been
registred (August 2024)
in the Armorial of the
Swiss Heraldic Society.
The
historian Cristoforo
Poggiali, librarian of
the Infante of Spain and
Duke of Parma, Piacenza
and Guastalla Don
Filippo of Bourbon
Parma, in volume VI of
the "Historical Memoirs
of the City of Piacenza"
(1759) recalls the Conti
as an ancient noble
family, originally
called Conti di Bardi
(“Counts of Bardi”)
because they were once
feudal lords of the
castle of Bardi as
vassals of the Bishop of
Piacenza.
The
Conti coat of arms
represents the memory of
the ancient rights over
the castle of Bardi: an
eagle rises from the
tower on the mountain,
which represents the
dungeon located on the
top part of the large
rock where is erected
the castle of Bardi.
The Conti coat of arms
painted in watercolor in
the version known today,
is attached to the copy
of 30 October 1788,
authenticated and
legalized by the Ducal
Commissioner Antonio
Boldrini, of the
sentence confirming the
noble privileges
hereditary on the male
line with sentence of 12
June 1765 by the Supreme
Magistrate of the Royal
Finances of the Duchy of
Parma, Piacenza and
Guastalla, with the
endorsement of the
Sovereign Infante of
Spain and Duke Don
Filippo of Bourbon
Parma. The same
coat of arms is carved
on the portals of the
family's houses in
Valmòzzola (Parma) dated
1815 and 1852 and
recorded by the Italian
Alpine Club - Parma
Section in the Census of
Historical and
Architectural Heritage
of the Parma Apennines.
A
lineage of the Conti
family is present in
the: Yearbook of the
Italian Nobility, XXXIII
(2015-2020), volume II,
part IV "Families
decorated with generous
nobility especially in
the pre-unification
States".
The
armiger is Knight of the
Order of Merit of the
Italian Republic, Cross
for Peace Mission in
Bosnia, NATO Medal for
Peace Mission in former
Yugoslavia, and is a
direct descendant of
Domenico Conti (+ 1811),
one of the members of
the family to whom the
hereditary noble
privileges were
confirmed with the
aforementioned sentence
of 1765.
