These
are the historical arms of
Robinet Goubin I,
Chevalier, Seigneur of
Couasmes, Tax Collector of
the Duchess Anne of
Brittany (1433-1526).
Although there is no Grant
of arms in existence, the
arms are seen on a
portrait of the armiger,
Robinet, (which is a
diminutive of Robin).
The armiger was Knighted
by the Duchess Anne of
Brittany and was Lord of
Couasmes, a fief near
Rennes. He worked as
"Receveur de la Duchesse
Anne" which meant he was a
tax collector for the
Ducal family of Brittany.
His son: NH Robinet Goubin
II (1470-1526) Married
Perrine de Launay on the 9
May 1495 and had issue:
1) Guillaume
2) Jean
3) Marie
4) Jeanne
Robinet remarried on the
28 June 1521 in Dinan with
Marie Lambert who gave
him:
5) Gilles
6) Michau
7) Jean
8) Joachim
These Descendants gave
birth to numerous branches
that spread from Finistère
to the Caribbeans.
Both Robinet Goubin and
his son, who bore the name
and arms of his Father,
held notable positions in
the financial management
of the region of Brittany
(at the time a fully
independent and autonomous
nation), being Receveurs
of Saint Brieuc and Rennes
respectively. Robinet
Goubin's, brother, Jean,
was recorded in one
official report on the
fouages of the Éveché of
Saint Brieuc in 1494 by
Robinet as Ennobled from
Plessala.
The Goubin family are said
to originate in Normandy
and date back to the XIII
Century, having moved in
Central Brittany
(Moncontour) around the
year 1420.
Some Descendants of
Robinet Goubin have held
positions such as
Procureur in the
Parliament of Rennes and
Deputy as well as being
Mayors and Consuls, the
most prominent branch bore
entirely different arms
from the main family since
the Armorial general of
1696 being "Vert a swan
Argent a fess or charged
with four escallops
azure".
Both the family and
individual are well
documented in countless
historical and academic
sources.
