The
sprig of oak showing
three leaves Vert with
one acorn was chosen to
depict self-reliance,
independence and a fresh
start in America. The
fess wavy represents two
ocean voyages: Fleeing
from Gotenhafen to Kiel,
in January 1945 via the
Baltic Sea and
emigrating from
Bremerhaven to New York
City, via the Atlantic
Ocean in March 1952,
finally settling in New
York State. The uprooted
oak tree represents the
last of the armiger’s
family in Europe.
The crest of two arrows
in saltire represent the
US Army Special Forces
branch and the officer’s
sword sheathed in its
scabbard indicates that
the armiger is a retired
U.S. Army officer.
The Motto Ave Atque Vale
is a quote from Gaius
Valerius Catullus, Roman
Poet, 54 B.C. and is
intended to signify the
sentiment “I salute you
America, goodbye
Europe”.
The armiger, born 1938
in Marienburg, West
Prussia, is the eldest
son of Brunislaus Glodny
and his wife Anna
Glodny, née Anna Tröder.
