It
is believed that
Thurlo means
thunder from the
mountain
(Thunder Ruler,
Powerful, Thor,
The God of
Thunder,
Follower of
Thor); hence the
two bolts of
lightning each
passing over a
cloud.
The colour of
the field, red,
represents the
colour of a red
berry (common
usage, as
opposed to the
scientific
definition) such
as a raspberry
or strawberry
and signifies
the armiger’s
last name. The
armiger was born
in Jackson,
Mississippi and
the yellow wavy
fess represents
the Mississippi
River; the white
Magnolia flower
in base is the
state flower of
Mississippi.
For the crest,
the armiger
chose a naked
arm holding a
yellow lightning
bolt to signify
thunder (Thurlo)
sitting upon the
battlements of a
tower (the arm
and tower
signifying “a
tower of
strength”).
The canton of
the arms of
Anaya indicates
a strong and
direct familial
connection and
is placed upon
the arms, by
mutual consent,
as a “canton of
affection”.
The motto can be
literally
translated as
"The craftsman
of his own
future" but can
be paraphrased
as "The
architect of his
own future".
