The armiger
was born in
New York City,
one of the
world’s most
vibrant and
culturally
diverse
cities. Her
parents, Ramón
Gilberto Reyes
and Flor
Alicia
Almodóvar,
from Puerto
Rico, married
in 1949 and
moved to New
York. At the
time, the
armiger's
mother was a
teacher with a
Master's
degree in
science and
worked as a
social worker
with Catholic
Charities in
New York.
Meanwhile, her
father pursued
his dream of
becoming a
restaurateur.
The arms are
rich in
symbolism and
personal
significance
to the
armiger. St.
Patrick's
Cathedral in
New York is
one of the
city's most
stunning and
iconic
structures and
represents the
armiger's
religious
roots, as it
is the church
where she was
baptized.
The tower
symbolizes a
windmill from
a sugar
plantation in
southern
Puerto Rico,
specifically
the sugar
plantation
located in
Guayama. This
structure
stands tall in
the hometown
of the
armiger's
maternal
ancestors and
represents the
heritage their
Spanish
lineage.
The armiger is
proud to be a
descendant of
two pioneers
who worked
diligently in
the sugarcane
industry in
southern
Puerto Rico
during the
18th and 19th
centuries.
They evolved
from farmers
cultivating
sugarcane
fields to
managing
partners,
overseeing the
operations of
multiple
sugarcane
plantations
over the
years. These
include
Central
Josefa,
Central
Machete,
Colonia
Reunion, and
Central
Cortada in
Santa Isabel.
Today, the
arms honor her
great-grandfather,
Juan Almodóvar
Torres, and
grandfather,
Juan Almodóvar
De Jesús, who
played pivotal
roles in this
legacy.
The motto
"Nuba Finibus"
translates
from Latin to
Spanish as "No
Existen
Límites" and
in English as
"There Are No
Limits." This
phrase
emphasizes
that we
possess a
limitless
spirit and can
achieve
anything we
want; the only
limits are
those we
impose upon
ourselves. By
embracing this
belief,
we open
ourselves to
the incredible
blessings from
the holiness
of God working
through us.
The motto
embodies the
armiger's
essence and
character,
reflecting
both sides of
her lineage;
tt pays
tribute to her
parents, Ramón
Gilberto and
Flor Alicia,
as well as her
ancestors, Don
Leocadio Reyes
Rodríguez and
Don Juan
Almodóvar De
Jesús. These
individuals
were
pioneering
figures in
their
community and
played a
significant
role in the
development of
the southern
region of
Puerto Rico.
