The dexter portion of the shield represents the vineyard region Slovenske Gorice, symbolically personified by a blue bunch of grapes on a golden background. The blue colour of the grapes speaks of the honesty, loyalty and sustainability of people who have carefully cultivated the land and preserved the tradition of viticulture for generations. The golden field reflects the magnificence of the vineyard landscape and the richness of nature, which bears the fruits of hard work every year.

This connection between man, vine and the Creator is also beautifully expressed in the words from the Gospel of John: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. … Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me."

The golden challice on a blue field represents the Evangelist John. The blue field speaks of the honour, honesty and loyalty that John testified to with his life and his unwavering closeness to Christ. It reflects the peace of a person who remains steadfast in faith even in times of trial. The golden chalice symbolizes the majesty and dignity of his mission, the richness of the word of God and the holiness of the Eucharistic mystery that he proclaimed.

The motto of the Anželj family, "Grace and Truth",  is taken from the biblical words of the Gospel of John: "For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ". These words reflect the spiritual guidance of the family; the effort to live in honesty of heart, loyalty to faith, and openness to one’s neighbour. Grace speaks of God’s goodness, mercy, and gift of life, while truth speaks of strength of character, sincerity, and the light that shows man the right path. Together, they form the foundation of values that connect the family with the Gospel tradition and direct it toward a life of dignity, peace, and love.

The helmet ornament of the Anželj family coat of arms is adorned with double silver spread eagle wings. The eagle, the symbol of the Evangelist John, personifies the spirit, clarity of thought, and the power of the word, while the silver colour of the wings carries the meaning of purity and at the same time reveals the wisdom that accompanies a noble heart.
