The Arms of Jean
                                                Marie Parlett

John Parlett settled in Scotland in the early 1930s. He was descended from the Parletts of Stradsett whose canting Arms are recorded in the Visitation of Norfolk in 1664 – Ermine , a parrot proper.. When Arms were granted posthumously to John Parlett in 1991 the devisal was based upon this Coat with the addition of two extra parrots in bend sinister. His daughter, Jean, was the eldest child. However, the undifferenced Arms descended to the son of her younger, deceased, brother and it was therefore necessary to matriculate the Arms, in her name, with a suitable difference. At that time the so called “Stodart” system of differencing by bordure was generally reserved for male descendants with women being assigned a cadency mark based on English practice – hence the allocation, to the eldest child, of the crescent of a younger sibling.
