William Alexander Newlands of Lauriston, Baron of Miltonhaven*

Registered: The International Register of Arms, 21st Nov. 2016. Registration No. 0408 (Vol.3). (Lordship & Barony Register)

Arms: Per saltire Gules and Or, in chief a cross pattee fitchee at the bottom Argent and in each flank a cross pattee fitchee at the bottom of the First.

Crest: A gamecock proper hooded as a falcon spurred Or.

Motto:
Honour the Spur

Matriculated: The Court of the Lord Lyon, 28 October, 2002 (Vol.85, folio 36).

The Arms of William
                                                Alexander Newlands of
                                                Lauriston, Baron of
                                                Miltonhaven

First Chief of the Name of Newlands, Jasper Newlands of that Ilk, is recorded in Nithsdale in 1469.

The armiger is a Churchill Fellow, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, member of the Guild of Freemen of the City of London, Burgess of Glasgow, Convention of the Baronage of Scotland, City Livery Club, Society of Authors; on active service with Far East Air Force, RAF, 1953-55; Daily Mail Travel Correspondent, twice voted Travel Writer of the Year.

The armiger's wife, Dorothy, Lady Lauriston,is currently (2016-17) Deacon of the Incorporation of Wrights in Glasgow and also a liveryman in London, with the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.

*The Barony of Miltonhaven is now held by Dorothy Newlands of Lauriston after being assigned by William Newlands of Lauriston on 14th February, 2017.

Lauriston Castle's barony was re-named Miltonhaven in 1695. (The outgoing Straton Laird wanted to take the name with him to his new, more modest, estate.)
