Arms: Azure, a lion rampant Argent armed and langued Gules in base three fleur-de-lis Or two and one on a chief Argent three four leaf clovers slipped Vert.

Crest: A horse forcene Argent.

Motto: Integrity and Achievement.

Grant: Interlocutor Court of the Lord Lyon 25th October 2023, Grant 1st February 2024.

The Dignity of the Lordship and Barony of  Bothwell is registered in vol.5 folio 118 of the Scottish Barony Register of date 10 August 2023; The Dignity of the Lordship of Kildrummie is registered in vol.5 folio 119 of the Scottish Barony Register of date 27 November 2023. The Arms were assigned by warrant, by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, granting authority to the Lyon Clerk to prepare Letters Patent granting Arms, with an helm befitting his degree*, on 25 October 2023.

* Whilst the armiger is entitled to use the open faced helm of a Knight of the Realm should he so wish, illustrated here is the baronial helm appropriate to the Dignity of a Baron in the Baronage of Scotland.


The Arms represent Sir Williams Scottish heritage with the Lion Rampant and the Fleur-de-lis also reflecting his home, Chateau Fleur-de-lys. The four-leaf clovers represent his Irish heritage. The horse forcene represents Lady Judi’s Cochrane lineage.

The armiger graduated from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, London, and Harvard Business School. He was Chairman and CEO of the Gallagher Group from 1973 to 2021 and is currently President, Gallagher Holdings.
