The Arms of Machiel
                                                de Vries LL.M KCRCST

The arms were designed by H.K. Nagtegaal of Delft, a well known expert on heraldry in The Netherlands, in association with the Armiger.

The most prominent charge on the arms is the Frysian Eagle, witch refers to the Frysian ancestry of the bearer. The sheaf and the anchor refer to the main means of livelihood of the early ancestors of the bearer. Recent generations (as is the case of the bearer himself) are working in the field of law and justice, hence the sword and the scales in the crest.

The motto is a quotation from Cicero (Pro Milone) and refers to the suffering of the family during the Second World War.
