The
armiger is a member of
the Sovereign Military
Order of Malta
(Sovrano Militare Ordine
di Malta SMOM) and has
been decorated with the
Order of Merit of the
Italian Republic (Ordine
al Merito della
Repubblica Italiana
(OMRI)). His origins are
from an ancient and
distinguished family of
Tagliacozzo, a town and
commune in the province
of L'Aquila, Abruzzo,
central Italy and are
set down in a
genealogical tree dating
back to the sixteenth
century with various
members of the family
holding public positions
in the judiciary of the
Duchy of Tagliacozzo and
among the Priors and
Councillors of the
University, belonging to
the first social class.
The
tinctures of the field
of the coat of arms, red
and blue, indicate
strength, loyalty, and
nobility of soul. The
rampant golden lion
alludes to the warrior’s
strength, also expressed
by the black band that
surmounts it, alluding
to the companies of
fortune as a reference
to the surname. The
golden lily and the four
silver waves recall the
homeland, the Marsica,
represented by the Iris
Marsica (yellow water
lily) and the Fucino
lake.
The four ostrich
feathers of the crest
indicate the social
dignity of the family
and their tinctures are
reflected in the
mantling.
The
motto, Ad Ventura
Capiendum,
might be paraphrased as
"I fight to make the
future mine” or “I
fight to grasp the
future”.
The
coat of arms is
transmitted to the
legitimate descendants
of the owner and is
accompanied by a
genealogy, registered
with the Chronicler King
of Arms of Spain, dating
back to 1600.
