The
Gallelli Barons of
Badolato were the last
feudal lords of Badolato
and, having had
political and judicial
power over their feu,
were able to influence
and control the
territory, the economy
and the village.
The
noble family originally
Dalmatian of Zadar, the
Gallelli are cited for
the first time in the
twelfth century of the
one hundred patrician
families in Zadar. Among
the most illustrious
ancestors are the
bishops Zaratini Petrus
1138. Gallis and
Lampridio Gallellus
1148.
The
design of the armiger’s
coat of arms originates
in the original coat
used by Gallelli in
Zadar: on a red field a
silver rooster, standing
on a green mountain of
three peaks. It is
though that the “modern”
coat possibly came about
following the migration
of the race from
Calabria but it is not
known why they added the
black eagle, and red
fox.
One
of his most important of
the family’s ancestors
was Baron Don Giuseppe
Gallelli, lawyer, Mayor
of the nobles of
Badolato from 1871 to
1888. crown knight of
Italy. Intelligent and
farsighted, he was one
of the first to
understand the need 'of
a national monarchy
which when unified would
be able to cope with the
monarchies of the great
European states.
The
Armiger and his brother,
Don Alberto Gallelli
Benso are, by decree of
the President of the
Republic (1999) allowed
to add to their own, the
surname of their mother,
Benso.
The
armiger’s older brother,
Don Hector is the
eleventh Gallelli Baron
of Badolato , Patrician
of Stilo, Earl of Pago
and Ninth and Patrician
of Zara, knight of
Malta, knights of St.
John in Catanzaro,
knight jure sanguinis of
the Sacred Military
Constantinian Order of
St. George Spain, and in
the last guard of honour
at the Savoy royal
tombs.
The
Armiger is engaged in
the management of the
family real estate
company along with his
brother.
