The Arms of Prof.
                                                Dott. Maurizio Cusimano

The coat of arms is recorded in "Nobiliary of Sicily", a book by Antonio Mango di Castelgerardo 1912-1915. The Family Cusimano is recorded in the Yearbook of Italian Nobility, XXXI edition, parts V. A painting of the arms is on display in the collection of the noble coats of arms of Sicily in Donnafugata Castle.

The Cusimano family descends from Leonardo Cusimano of Castelbuono, c. 1500, the first ancestor for which any documentation has been found. Following the epidemic that struck Castelbuono in 1600, the family also created branches in Carini, Palermo and Termini Imerese. Notable ancestors include Salvatore Cusimano (see Mango di Castelgerardo) who was Praetor of Palermo in 1792 and then elected to the Royal Grand Court of Palermo in 1812. The Cusimanos were very close to the Royal House of Savoia and had an important political part in the Unification of Italy in 1861. During the second world war many documents were lost however the family has recently begun to piece together their history and family papers have begun to be unified.

The family has always had a great tradition of army and naval officers as well as judges and professors and today the family continues to be made up of distinguished journalists, university professors, judges, and notaries.
