                                                (ret)

The armiger's eligibility to bear Irish arms is based on lineal descent from his paternal grandfather, Thomas Sullivan (1843-1920) an immigrant to the United States in 1860 from County Cork, Ireland. During the petition process the actual selection of the devices and the crest were left to the expertise of the Irish heralds with a request that they be readily identifiable as of Irish origin.

The black boar was assigned as one element and the red mullets and bars represent the armiger's maternal lineal descent from Lawrence Washington, an armiger and immigrant to Virginia. The gold mortar and pestle assigned as the crest represents the armiger's profession of pharmacy. The motto reflects two major aspects of the armiger's life.

The armiger is a retired colonel of the United States Army. He is a Knight of Magistral Grace of The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta. And a Knight of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George.
