The armiger is the son of Augustine Roche of Dublin; son of William Roche of Dublin; son of Charles Roche of Dublin; son of William Roche of Dublin born 1806. This branch of the Roche family is believed to descend from the Roche family of Rye Hill and Granagh Castle who are a cadet branch of the Viscounts Roche of Fermoy created 1461. The Anglo- Norman Roche family came to Ireland in 1169. The motto, Mon Dieu Est Ma Roche (My God is My Rock) has been used by the Roche family since at least 1169.

The armiger is the great great great great grandson of Right Honourable Jacob Poole of Ballyroan who was Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1802. The Poole family originally from Poole Hall in Cheshire and came to Ireland in 1649 to Taghmon in Wexford as Cromwellian settlers. The armiger is the grandson of Margaret Ann Reid a scion of the Reid family of Grayston Park Dumfriesshire who were created Baronets of Ewell Grove in surrey in 1823.

The armiger holds an honours Law degree LLB from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, an MBA from Trinity College Dublin Ireland (KPMG Award-Winner), an MSc in Economics by research from University College Dublin Ireland and a PhD from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom.
