Registration: Chronicler
of Arms of Castilla and
León, H.E. Don Alfonso
de Ceballos-Escalera y
Gila, Marquis de La
Floresta, No. 6/2016,
5th February 2016.
These
arms were adopted in
2004 and are a
differenced version of
those of the
pre-existing (1921) arms
of Groff-McKouwn,
matrimonial grandparent
of Admin. Lic. Gunnar K.
A. Njålsson, - an
administrative scientist
and publishing executive
of the cities of
Grankulla and Espoo,
Finland. The
Groff-McKouwn arms are
also a differentiation
of the McKeown armorial
bearings originating
from Ireland. According
to tradition the McKouwn
family traces its
ancestry to one of the
seven sub-clans of the
royal Uí Niall of
Ireland. The Swiss Groff
family is mentioned as
early as 1300 in
Bäretzwil, canton
Zürich, Switzerland and
emigrated from there to
Sinsheim, Germany around
1651. The surname has
also presented as Graff
or Graf which, in the
English language,
translates to "Count".
The Njålsson family,
academics and
entrepreneurs by
tradition, appears in
public documents in
Hiiumaa (Dagoe) and
mainland Estonia as well
as southern Finland
during the 1900's as
belonging to the Swedish
speaking minority of
that country. The
wolves, fir branch and
eight-pointed stars
signify the Nordic roots
of the Njålsson family.
In the adopted and
differentiated arms, the
lyre and laurel wreath
have been introduced and
signify the earlier
Politices Magister title
bestowed upon the owner
at the Promotione
sollemni et iubilari of
2000 at the University
of Helsinki.
