The Arms of Richard
                                                Edward Hildreth

Red and blue are the armiger’s favourite colours and also allude to his British and American ancestry. The rose indicates his ancestry in Yorkshire, England, and the way it shelters rosebuds is an allusion to his career in children's services. The three pheons are taken from arms previously borne by other Hildreths, the old Massachusetts family from whom Mr. Hildreth comes.

The armoured arm of the crest refers to the protective nature of Mr. Hildreth's work, and the rose refers to the charge in the arms and in the crest of other Hildreth arms. "Memento et para te" means remember and prepare yourself. It refers to Mr. Hildreth's interest in the study of history and his optimism toward the future.

The armiger descends from Richard and Thomas Hildreth, who emigrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony from Yorkshire, England in 1635. He received his Baccalaureate in English Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He matriculated for the PhD in Cultural Anthropology at the State University at Buffalo, where he lectured in that subject. He was subsequently awarded a Fellowship at the University of Toronto while earning a Masters Degree in Social Work.

During a long career in Ontario Child Welfare, Mr. Hildreth was Director of Children's Aid Services in two counties. As a community leader, he has been President, Director or Chairman of several organizations, including the Canadian National Insitute for the Blind, an Association for Community Living, Family Court Clinic and Children's Services Council. Currently, he is Policy Advisor to the Government of Ontario on child and youth mental health.

The armiger is a Knight of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Deputy Grand Prior (Canada) and Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Stanislas, Knight of St. George, Knight of the Holy Cross and Grand Officer of the Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam. A devoted monarchist, he is also a member of several loyal and charitable organizations, including the Monarchist League of Canada, St. George's Society of Toronto and the Canadian Royal Heritage and Royal Commonwealth Societies.
