The
armiger was born in
Ghent and the arms,
approved by the Flemish
Heraldic Council in 2016
may be used by all
living name-bearing
descendants of Hubertus
Pieter August Baeckeland
(b. Ghent 1931 d. Ghent
2014) and Ariella
Edmonde Germaine
Vandenbogaerde (b. Ghent
1931 – d. Ghent 2004).
The
tinctures of Argent
(white or silver) and
Vert (green or sinople
in the old French form
of blazon) refer to the
colours of the coat of
arms of Eeklo where the
registrant spent his
childhood.
The
Gules (red) and Or
(gold) in the crest
allude to the colours of
the coat of arms of
Kruishoutem, the oldest
known cradle, or origin,
of the family. (A.D.
1651).
The
pince-nez refers to
Oudenaarde where many
generations of the
family lived in its
suburbs. The hem, or
braided cord/rope, of
Sable (black) and Argent
(white) refers to the
nickname of the
inhabitants of Ghent
(Stroppendragers = noose
carriers) where the
applicant was born. The
cloverleaves stand for
the possession of land.
The
fringed lozenge strewn
with clover leaves forms
the canting element of
the arms: delimited,
fenced land.
