The Azure shield with three bars wavy Argent symbolises the waters of the ocean which has ancestral and personal significance to the armiger. The shield is the main charge. It is the shape of a traditional tribal African shield representing the armiger’s African heritage. The gold in the shield represents the sandy coastline of Australia, where the armiger currently works and lives. The red wavy lines on the shield represents blood and symbolises his profession as a medical specialist (haematologist). The image therefore integrates the armiger’s heritage, current life circumstances and vocation.

The crest is composed of a pile of books on top of which a large oak tree is growing. The oak tree has been chosen for its qualities of strength, wisdom, and courage in the face of adversity. It is shown with roots eradicated, being nourished by knowledge represented by the pile of books. Study has played a major role in the armiger’s personal and professional life. In all, this imagery represents personal growth from knowledge and wisdom.
