The armiger is a retired seismologist with a postgraduate degree of Master of Sciences who now spends his time as an amateur meteorologist.

The tinctures of the shield, Or and Azure, along with the fleurs-de-lis, represent what is hoped to be an heraldic allusion on the surname Ffrench; the name is believed to have meant "from France," or possibly someone from the Īle de France. The division of the field, per bend bevelled, represents a Tectonic plate. Tectonic plates are large, irregularly shaped pieces of the Earth's lithosphere (crust and upper mantle) that move and interact with each other, causing various geological events like earthquakes and volcanoes. These plates are constantly moving due to heat convection within the Earth's mantle. Likewise, the addition of the orle, divided and counterchanged represents the Earth's geological structure, divided and layered.

The demi-man of the crest is holding an annulet per fess representing the Earth's crust divided into the northern and southern hemispheres.

The motto, "Whatever" is a contraction of the phrase "Whatever the weather, we'll weather the weather", from the popular vocal warm up tongue twister; "Whether the weather be cold, Or whether the weather be hot, Whatever the weather, we'll weather the weather, Whether we like it or not.". This short, simple verse, alludes to the armiger's hobby of weather watching.
