The Arms of Barrie
                                                John Burr

These arms have unusual distinction of having mantling To chief Vert doubled Or to base Gules doubled Argent. The torse follows the tinctures of the mantling.

The red and white of the upper part of the shield represents the armiger’s country of birth, England, and its geographical location of Northern hemisphere. The green and gold in the lower portion of the shield represents the armiger’s country of residence, Australia, and its geographical location of Southern hemisphere. The blue palette represents the oceans over which the armiger sailed from England to Australia when he emigrated in 1972.

The white division line, sappinage, represents the forests through which the armiger races in his sport of rallying and the compass star represents his role within the sport as that of a navigator, or in more recent times, called a co-driver.

                                                          Burr

The crest is a Buzzard, from the name of the armiger’s home town of Leighton Buzzard in England. The sandy mound represents one of the main industrial activities of its day, sand mining. The paint brush in its beak represents the armiger’s heraldic artwork.

The boar’s head badge is derived from the earlier usage of signs outside places of business to denote its type: A boar’s head was a sign of hospitality, an industry in which the armiger worked as a cook (chef).
The second badge is taken from the floral emblem (lilly) of his home in the County of Bedfordshire. The paint brushes in saltire again, represent his heraldic artwork.

The armiger is known internationally for his skilful renditions (emblazons) of armorial bearings using digital technology. He has developed this art to a high level while continually expanding his knowledge of heraldry. He is an active contributor to various international forums and a member of a number of international heraldic bodies.
