The Arms of Oliver
                                                M. Gruber-Lavin

The elements of the arms reflect the past and present of the armiger’s family history. This Old Austrian family originates from different Crown lands of the former Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, but mainly from the German parts of Bohemia (the arms of Bohemia show a lion like the one in the crest), and after the last members of the female line were expelled from Czechoslovakia after WWII, the family now lives mainly in Austria (red and white are the national colors of Austria). Green symbolizes the Order of Saint Lazarus. The brushes are taken from the Gruber arms and symbolize the armiger’s father’s profession as an artist and his passion for art. The lilies are taken from the arms of the line of “Sta. Maria de Lavin” (Caballeros probaron su hidalguia en la Real Cancilleria de Vlladolid).

The armiger has a professional background in different fileds of the public and private sector. His service in the Austrian Army as a regular included a UN-mission to Syria (Golan Heights). He worked as a parlimantarian assitant and consultant in the Austrian parliament and was elected district councillor in Vienna and re-elected twice. For the Viennese state parliament elections he was top candidate in his constituency.

After his political carreer he worked as a consultant and member of the management committee for Austrian and German mining companies in East Africa.

The armiger has extensive teaching experience as a lecturer in vocational training institutes. He is personally ISO certified as a specialized instructor and now acts as instructor in an institution of further education in Vienna. He was awarded the Associate Membership (AMBCS) of The British Computer Society (BCS) and he also is an Associate (AMRI) of the Royal Institution of Great Britain.

The armiger has a long record of activities in the field of international Humanitarian Relief Assistance and other fields of welfare activities. He published 2 books so far and received numerous national and international decorations for his work (United Nations Medal in the Service of Peace, Etoile du Bien et du Mérite (France), La Croix d’Honneur du Policier Européen, Etoile Européenne du Dévouement Civil et Militaire d’Or …)

He holds the rank of a Colonel in the Corps Saint Lazarus International (Lazarus Union) and is a knight (KLJ) of the United Grand Priories of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and Grandprior of the Grandprioy of Austria.
